The Olympic Flog on Fog

Over the last few weeks our tabloids have been increasingly focused on the lead up to the Beijing Olympics. And along with it the stories, headlines and front pages have snapped up plenty of opportunities to flog the story on fog. And the whole world is watching.

I, along with the countless millions, watched the opening ceremony last night, and the pre-opening programs. I, along with the millions, viewed the living reality of the carbon overload that is suffocating Beijing.

And, I’m sure I was not the only one to observe some interesting contradictions. Along with the wonder of the entire spectacle one cannot help but feel the awe of such a majestic gathering of individuals from all nations. The message of coming together inspires our hearts and lifts up our spirits. Reverence to the human quest of glory sings out in the crowds, pride beams out across every face.

Meanwhile our self-adulation is rapaciously chewing through natural resources at a rate that is unsustainable (and destroying our planet) and the children on the centre stage painted in rainbow colours as they chanted a song of prayer that the forests will grow back and the birds will return. A vast amount of human time, energy and money went into creating such a display. Will our countries be willing to spend the same amount of time, energy and money on green solutions? Will the energy of these prayerful messages be given equally to action?

Surely this event is more than a quest to achieve greater human prowess and once again prove how the human spirit loves to conquer. Surely this event beckons us to look at the magnitude of our human contradiction to life? Surely we can’t keep living in the smokescreen of superficial goodwill.

It is understandable that globally voices are reaching a crescendo of concern about China’s greenhouse status. This once again reflects back on us all. It is inevitable that the question “What do we do?” will plague every one of us more deeply. Yet we must recognize that there truly is no one generic answer… nor even just a select set of answers from a few of the educated elite members who care deeply for this world. The answer must come from EVERY single one of us. What the world needs now is for every single one of us to answer; to respond to the choking plea of our world.

Will our effort for our world’s wellbeing be OLYMPIC enough?

Perhaps we could turn every feeling of frustration, every feeling of helplessness to better use. Perhaps we could be ever more discerning of our own contradictions. Perhaps it is time for us to take the situation a little more deeply into our heart of awareness. How are we still living in contradiction? How do we as individuals make better and better choices?

How?

One step at a time: each precious moment by each precious moment. If we truly ask ourselves in each moment … “What is the effect of my thoughts, my feelings, my beliefs and my actions”? We will find a way to see more clearly and to make better choices. By this action we become a living example. What the world needs now is a critical mass of leading examples for others, so those who are lagging may be taken up in the swell.

Perhaps the fact that China has made a global display of their children praying for the future is a sign that the conscious swell is moving. Perhaps it is a good sign. And, if we can choose to see it this way we may be adding the very ingredient that is needed to see this energy of potential turn into action.

Let us then send a ripple of vision around the world. Let us become an OLYMPIC vision of awareness and change for the world. Please send this message to as many individuals as you can.

The following is a meditation you can do alone or as a group.

First, be quiet and still. Close your eyes and begin to breathe slow, gentle calm breaths. Do this for about 5 minutes. Then set your intent – focus your thoughts and energy in your heart centre. See this energy expanding wider and wider until you see/feel this energy reaches all things, embracing all people and all of earth. Do this for about 5 to 10 minutes.

Then speak the words aloud, even if you are alone (or affirm together).

I AM the presence of Awareness.
I AM the presence of Love.

This body is an instrument of awareness and love.

These ears hear with the heart of awareness and love.

These eyes see with the truth of awareness and love.

This mind is filled with the light of awareness and love.

This voice speaks the gentle truth of awareness and love.

These hands bring the care of awareness and love.

These feet walk to bring awareness and love to all.

I AM the presence of Awareness.
I AM the presence of Love.

Continue in your heart to hold the vision that you are open to the wisdom of life.
See that you are present in each and every moment.
See that in each and every moment your heart responds to life consciously with love and care.
See that you are aware of your thoughts and actions… that each comes from love.
See that your world is touched with this harmony.
See that together we are making better choices for the world.

SEE that our world is radiant, alive and in harmony. SEE that we are living in a green world filled with peace and love.

May you realise that you are a living instrument of awareness. You as this instrument are absolutely essential to the whole.May your life be empowered by this realisation.

May you be uplifted by this truth. May you become an ever brighter light of awareness. May you be the living action of awareness. May you celebrate with your loved ones the light of their awareness.

Together may we set the world ablaze with living awareness.

In the name of Love for all,

Isira.
